The second annual A Sudden Impulse Futurity and AQHA show concluded on Saturday, April 30, after am 11-day run at the World Equestrian Center-Ocala with an increase of more than 500 stalls and numerous new exhibitors joining the show. The futurity classes ended with the biggest payout of the show going to trainer Aaron Moses and owners G & S Performance Horses and their entry in the $100,000 Added NSBA Three Year Old Maiden Open Western Pleasure, ShesGotAWayAboutHer. They earned a $20,000 paycheck for the win.

ShesGotAWayAboutHer Had The Right Way

“This is a really awesome three year old mare by No Doubt Im Lazy,” Aaron said. “We call her Pebbles, and we just bought her about 45 days ago from Kelby and Kaitlyn Hutchinson. They did a great job starting her. We’ve got great owners, too, and they love her as well.

“It’s been our plan since the beginning to show her in this class. Even though she was started great, we had some challenges just getting to know each other. But we got it put together. She jogged and loped great tonight, and she was so soft and listened during the class. I just tried not to get nervous, and not overdo it. I could tell when we first came out into the pen that she was going to be good. I just needed to make sure I did my job with her.

“She will be showing in the Novice horse classes this year, and we will be going to the Madness next.”

LivingLike ARockStar Sweeps Three Year Old Maiden Hunter Under Saddle

Shannon McCulloch and LivingLike ARockStar followed up their win in the Limited Open division of the Three Year Old Maiden Hunter Under Saddle by winning the Open division of the class on Saturday morning. The duo earned $3,420.14 for the first place finish.

LivingLike ARockStar is by Living Large, and was purchased in the 2020 NSBA Markel Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Yearling Sale. He will be showing for a portion of the sale graduate purse at the 2022 NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity.

Michelle Bauer And Give Me A Good Alibi Notch Another Win

Michelle Bauer noted that her last ride of the Sudden Impulse aboard Give Me A Good Alibi was her best one, when the duo won the $2,000 Added Three Year Old Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle. They earned $849.94 for the first place finish.

“He was really good for me today, and he was super fun to show today,” she said. “It’s probably the best ride I’ve had this week on him.” The show team had already won the $2,000 Added NSBA Three Year Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle on Wednesday bringing their total earned in the two classes to almost $1,800.

She noted that Give Me A Good Alibi will be showing in three year old Open events with Highpoint Performance Horses’ Beth Case and in Non-Pro with Michelle throughout the 2022 show season.

Im Willy Good Today Was Great For Keith Miller

The Senior Hunter Under Saddle horses proved to be a tough group, but Im Willy Good Today and Keith Miller proved up to the challenge, bringing home first place and a check for $466.64 for owner Erin Shapiro Boatwright.

“Drake is such a good boy,” Keith said. “He’s six years old now, and he’s just so solid. He’s been doing the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle and Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle classes with Erin and Senior and Open Maturity classes with me.

“We are just so thankful to Sandra Morgan, Stephen Stephens and Terry Cross for selling him to us when we asked about him. He has the best home – it’s Drake’s world and we just live in it. He has a great life!”

Cole Baker Continues Winning Ways In Maturity

Cole Baker showed a familiar horse, Line Up Behind, to win the $5,000 Added Maturity Open Western Pleasure for JR and Melissa Cook. The team earned 2,039.58 for the class win, and also topped the Western Pleasure Super Sires division of the class to earn an additional2,246.40.

“Calvin is five years old now, and we had given him the winter off,” Cole said.

“We just brought him back about three weeks ago, and he picked right up where he left off. I don’t live very far from the World Equestrian Center, so we just brought him over here two days ago. It’s not his favorite place to show, but he knows when it’s show time. When you put his tail in and his show saddle on, he knows it’s time to go show.”

Cole noted that he and the Cooks are choosing specific places to show Calvin in 2022. “We’ll be showing him here and there until we get ready for the fall shows,” he said.

‘Peanut’ Takes Limited Horse Maturity Western Pleasure

A little orphaned foal grew up to be an A Sudden Impulse Futurity champion when Cody Parrish showed Just To Be Cool to win the $2,000 Added NSBA $5,000 Limited Horse Maturity Western Pleasure.

“One of our customers raised him, and he was an orphan,” Cody said. “We didn’t even start him until the late in his two year old year to give him time to catch up. We just showed him one time last year, and he’s four years old now.

“He’s been worth the wait. He’s a lot of fun and he has a ton of personality. He’s one of those horses that you just put him where you want him and he’ll just stay there. He’s just now getting to become a show horse, and he’s going to become a 13 & Under horse for his new owners.”

Western Riding, Trail Champions Named

Amateur, Select Amateur and Youth Western Riding champions earned their share of the A Sudden Impulse Futurity purses on Saturday.

Jeffrey Johns showed Legacy Made to win the NSBA $1,500 Added Amateur Western Riding. They earned a score of 234 and a paycheck of $685.30 for the win. “It was the first time we got to show outside, after being inside for the rest of the show with Trail,” Jeffery said.

“It went really well and it was fun to be able to show in the Grand Arena. It was actually a little bit of a tight pattern for him, because he is a big horse, but it helped keep him contained. We did Pattern #3 and it was a good pattern.”

In the NSBA $1,500 Added Amateur Select Western Riding, Laina Banks took Strawberri Wine through the course to earn a 235 score and $757.92 for first place. Laina considered the class a bit of a do-over. “I was showing Eye On The Ball first, and I was so worried about keeping Beans straight down the line that I kept going straight when I was supposed to be turning,” she laughed.

“So I was off pattern. I guess sometimes you need two horses to get the pattern right. Berry is always good, and she’s so fun to show no matter what we place. I just felt sorry for Beans because I didn’t do him justice this time.”

In the $1,000 Added Youth Western Riding, Lydia Menossi showed Justa Machine to win the $529.31 first place prize.

In the $3,000 Added NSBA Limited Rider Open Trail Six and Over, Curtis Reynolds showed Won Vital Code RV for owner Ella Petak to win $1,701.82 for the first place prize.
