The 2022 NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity came to an end on Sunday, August 21, and for some NSBA members, the final classes brought a world or futurity title to fruition, while others continues to do what they’ve done all week – win.
Hunter Highlights
Sandra Morgan and Im Willy Fabulous ended the NSBA World Show as they began it – by winning – this time in the Breeders Championship Futurity Two Year Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle.
The stallion by Sandra’s late stallion, Good I Will Be, and out of Fabulicity was undefeated in the four classes in which he competed, which also included the Breeders Championship Futurity Two Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle and the Two Year Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle with Tami Thurston, and the Two Year Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle.
‘Fabio’ was undefeated in three of the four classes and placed first under three of the four judges in his final class. “We’re so pleased with him,” Sandra said.
Rebekah Kazakevicius and Real Southern Assets won the Limited division of the same class, continuing the duo’s winning ways.
Cydney Benes brought out her ten year old gelding, Iron IE Legacy, for the Maturity Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle and won the world championship with her long-time show partner.
“He felt really good out there,” Cydney said. “I was really happy with my go, and I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
Keith Miller piloted Ridin On Chrome to the gelding’s third NSBA World Championship. The gelding is now a three-time NSHA world and futurity champion, having won the Color Breeders Championship Futurity Hunter Under Saddle, the Color Breeders Championship Futurity and the Color Junior Hunter Under Saddle.
Ashley Bailey showed CoolKrymsunLadyLike to the world championship futurity title in the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle, notching a BCF championship on the mare owned by the Laurel Champlin Family Trust. “She’s just a really cool mare who is really fun to show,” Ashley said.
“She’s really easy to handle through traffic, and her lope is just a lot of fun. You can just put her where you want and just relax and have a good time showing her.”
Darla Lee ended her 2022 NSBA World Championship Show by winning her very first NSBA world championship with Jack And Koa in the Maturity Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle. She showed for owner Shelly Boyle, who had shown ‘Jack’ to a third place finish earlier in the morning in the Maturity Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle with Shelly.
“I have been reserve champion here before but never won a world championship, so this is pretty huge,” Darla said. “Jack has been an incredibly tough horse. We showed him for the first time at the A Sudden Impulse Maiden Three Year Old Futurity and were reserve there and won the Limited division, but it has taken two trainers to put him together – Marion Troyer has helped us get us to where we are now.
“I think Jack is kind of a last day horse. He’s very quiet, and he does really well in traffic, and that really helped him in this class because there were a lot of horses out there. There’s really nothing not to like about him in the show pen. He’s by The Next Detail and out of Rum And Koa, and Missy Thyfault bred him, and she’s really been his number one cheerleader.”
Western Ways
The crowd in the Ford Truck Arena got to here George Strait’s “The Fireman” one more time on Sunday morning when VS The Fireman and Aaron Moses were named the champions in the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Open Western Pleasure.
“He seems like he gets better the more he goes,” Aaron said. “He’s just a great horse, and he’s my buddy.”
Just a few classes later, Kristen Galyean took her three year old red roan mare, VS Whole Lotta Lucy, for a final spin in the Ford Truck Arena to win the Two Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure, winning another world championship for the talented mare’s resume.
Brooke Granzow showed GetMyGoodSyde to win the Limited division of the same class. “Indy was better today than the first time I showed her,” Brooke said of their final outing at this year’s World Show.
“She was with me every step and was really fun to show. I was worried that I wouldn’t have any horse left, so we kept her back at the stalls and she was sleeping for quite a while. She was very consistent throughout the class, and our departures were all good. It was the perfect ride, and it all fell together.”
Hillary Roberts saved her best go for her final class of the 2022 NSBA World Show when she showed Aint Nothin To It to win the Maturity $10,000 Limited Horse Non-Pro Western Pleasure.
The mare known as Irene has some royal bloodlines. “She’s by Machine Made and out of Shes Immortal, who is the dam of Line Up Behind,” Hillary said. “We were reserve in the BCF 4-6 Year Old Non-Pro and we won the $5,000 Limited Horse class at the A Sudden Impulse Futurity earlier this year. She was just a little bit immature so we took our time with her. She carries herself so well and has a lot of cadence.
“It’s a huge asset to have these Limited earnings classes for horses that her that just take a little longer to mature, and allow them to show in a class that suits them. We will continue to show her in Non-Pro and the $10,000 Limited Horse at the Congress, and we have some babies coming crossed with our stallion, Hay Goodlookn.”
Another exhibitor to end the NSBA World Show on a high note was Carson Click, who showed Whisty MadeMeFrisky to win the $2,500 Limited Horse/$2,500 Limited Rider Western Pleasure for owner Andrea Stubblefield. ”We showed in our split and he got a little long in his jog, so I knew I needed to correct that in the finals,” Carson said, who has worked as an assistant trainer for Sara Simons for almost three years.
“He was great in the finals, and was with me the whole class. He was super fun to show. We call him Whiskey, and he’s five years old. Andrea also shows him and he is starting his All Around career.
Like Carson, Linda Berwick ended the show on a high note with her mare, Deja Whoo, winning the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Limited Non-Pro Western Pleasure. “We bred and raised this mare and we call her Riley,” Linda said.
“She’s by The Loping Machine and out of Whose Cheating Who, who is a reserve Congress champion and has produced a Congress champion and now an NSBA world champion. Riley is just a happy horse. She wants to do her job. Today, she listened to everything I asked and I was so pleased with her. We’ve had to be patient and wait for it to come together. Angie (Cannizzaro) and I have been close but not won a championship with her until now, and we’re excited to win among such a great group of horses.”
