The 20th annual NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity ended with another full day of horse show classes, with world champions and Breeders Championship Futurity champions named throughout the day. The show closed with more than 10,600 entries, an increase over last year’s record-breaking year.
In the Ford Truck Arena, some new champions joined some familiar faces to round out the NSBA World Show.
Western Winners
Hillary Roberts showed what she describes as her absolute most favorite horse, The Cooki Monster, to win the Three Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure. “We call her Cher, and she’s spoiled and quite a diva,” laughed Hillary.
“She’s out of the last foal crop of A Cooki For Certain and by Machine Made. A Cooki For Certain is Whatscookngoodlookin’s dam, so she’s very special to me. She reminds me so much of Candy. She is so easy to ride and show, and she has more self-carriage than any horse I’ve ever shown. You just point her in the right direction, and she just goes. She’s as much a broodmare as she is a show horse, but she’s going to have a long horse show career. I’m never selling her.”
Garrett Streit put together a world championship performance with WellThereYouGo in the $2,500 Limited Rider, $,500 Limited Horse Western Pleasue. He was showing for Renee Norleen, who won a world title on the gelding earlier in the week.
“He’s super pretty and he has a great stride,” Garrett said of ‘Mac.’ “He was really consistent, and I think that really helped us win the class. “We were second all week, so it feels great to win my first NSBA world championship.”
Garrett was the first of two wins for the barn of RJ King and Blair Townsend. Made To Ride, piloted by Katie Heflin Steele for her parents, Bud and Gail Heflin, won the final class of the World Show in the Ford Truck Arena, the Three Year Old Limited Non-Pro Western Pleasure.
“We’re not a bridesmaid anymore!” Katie declared. “We had a pretty big group in this pen and it got a little dicey in the traffic. Foxy just looked around as if to say ‘why are horses on both sides of me?’ but she handled it great.”
It was Katie’s first NSBA world championship win. “It is super awesome to win it. Foxy is perfect, and she is a diva. She is going to get handfuls of treats when we get back to the stalls. She loves her job, and I couldn’t have asked for her to do anything more.”
So Freakin Awesome
Cindy Schrader finished out her 2021 NSBA World Show with a world championship in the Novice Amateur 50 & Over Hunter Under Saddle with her gelding, Sky Miles. “We had a reserve championship in the 50 & Over Hunter Under Saddle and several top tens, but this is great,” Cindy said.
“This is a great way to celebrate our one-year anniversary together. I bought Luca a year ago here. He’s been great. His demeanor never changes even when I’m stressed. He just says ‘ride lady, I got this.’
“Our go today was awesome. He was just on. He wants you to tell him where to put his feet and then he just stays there. He’s so easy and smooth, and Wade and Carly Parks always make sure we’re ready when it’s time to show. It’s so freakin’ awesome to win our first world title together!”
Tyler Haney and Big Red Truck put a great performance together in the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle, and came out with the futurity win in the class.
“We’ve been putting together some good parts when we showed all week, and it morphed into a really good performance today,” Tyler said. “I was a little nervous because there was a lot of traffic, but I tried to stick to the inside as best I could, and it worked out. Ann (Prince) had a really good go with him in the Amateur. He’s really coming together.”
It was a double win for Tyler, being his first NSBA world championship and also fell on Ann Prince’s birthday. “We’ve been second all week, so it’s great to be able to go out on a high note,” Tyler said.
Big Red Truck is by VS Code Red. “He’s super laid back. He loped around like he does now the first time we rode him,” Tyler said. Ann did have him for sale, but she’s had so much fun showing him that she’s decided to keep him and show at the Congress.”
Repeating Champions
Hubbout Another continued his winning ways, earning a world championship title in the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle with Danielle Long. Danielle showed “Boozer” for her parents, Chad and Doreen Moore. Laura Spell showed Only On Company Time to another word championship as well in the Color Green Hunter Under Saddle, showing for owner Morgan Rose Hobson. Im Willy Good Today continued his quest for more world championships, bringing in the seventh and eighth world title for owner Erin Shapiro Boatwright in the Maturity Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle and the Breeders Championship Futurity 4-6 Year Old Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle.
In the Western events, Courtney Moses showed Best To Be Lopin to another world championship in the Three Year Old Intermediate Non-Pro Western Pleasure, while Jamie Dowdy and Kissed In The South earned another world championship for owner Kristy McKechnie in the Two Year Old Limited Open Western Pleasure. Clay Arrington added another world championship for his grandmother’s stallion, RV Not For Hire when the duo won the Two Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure, while Kameron Thorn and Fine Lookin Lady won another title in the Two Year Old Intermediate Non-Pro division and Batterfly Kisses and Lola Knight were again world champions in the Limited Non-Pro division.
