The NSBA Foundation and Utah State University are pleased to announce their collaboration to assist military veterans in 2020.
As part of a grant from the US Department of Veterans Affairs Adaptive Sports Program, the group will provide equestrian competition training for veterans with mental and physical disabilities, and educational workshops on the value of competition, for VA Healthcare Professionals and regional Therapeutic Riding Instructors.
NSBA and USU will be creating the first ever Heroes on Horses Boot Camp for U.S. military veterans residing in the Intermountain West Region. Utilizing NSBA’s expertise in the equine competition, they will provide hands on riding and instruction in early summer of 2020.
In addition to this event, USU Equine Experience will be sending regional veterans and coaches to the NSBA Foundation’s 2020 Coaches Summit, and a team of veterans to participate in the Heroes on Horses classes, at the NSBA World Championship Show next August in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Utah State University (USU) highly values the human-equine connection and equine specific courses have been offered since 1916. Five years ago, the Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences (ADVS) began to offer equine related courses and experiences for the community, focused on the dynamic of the horse and human bond. USU strives to educate students, facilitate research, and impact our community through clinical services, extension outreach, and Equine Assisted Activities. The USU Equine Experience is the community service program that supports academic outcomes for the Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy courses.
About NSBA
Established in 1983, the National Snaffle Bit Association has expanded from its roots of the pleasure horse to recognize various disciplines, and eight breed associations in competition. NSBA’s mission is to grow the show horse community through various equine programs and events, where every activity benefits horses, breeders, owners, and exhibitors alike.
Operating under a separate board of directors, the NSBA Foundation serves as the fiduciary arm of the National Snaffle Bit Association, and provides funding to support the efforts of the Association, through programming specific to the equine industry and the NSBA membership. The NSBA Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
